Development can be defined as a gradual process of change and differentiation from a simple to a more advanced level of complexity (Mosby, 2010). Human development is a process that is unique to each individual, with many internal and external factors responsible for shaping the characteristics of the individual. In this essay, we shall explore my own development from the perinatal stage through to young adulthood. Focus will be placed on the different domains of change, namely; physical, cognitive, social and emotional. Throughout this essay various theories and concepts will be discussed in relation to my development. Perinatal The perinatal period is an interval extending approximately from conception through to the 28th day after birth (Mosby, 2010). This is a period of rapid development, as well as one of increased tenuousness and susceptibility. Although chromosomal and genetic disorders are the cause of some birth defects, roughly 80 percent of birth defects are caused by environmental factors whilst the foetus is in the womb. Amniotic fluid and the placental barrier protect the foetus from environmental influences. The world is an amazing place, but unfortunately there are horrible people with gruesome thoughts. Each short story involves one or many people trying to reach happiness, but they all have a point of sadness that overrides their way to happiness. That is where the theme comes in of all of the stories. Each story has the same theme. The â€Å"The Tell-Tale Heart†, â€Å"The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas†, and â€Å"The Sniper† all have very similar themes even though there plots are far from close. In the story of â€Å"The Tell Tale Heart†, the narrator was trying to kill the old man because of his vulture eye, so once the narrator kill the old man he was relieved of happiness, but then the narrator was caught by the police. In the story of â€Å"The Ones Who†¦show more content†¦This shows the theme of intolerance having tragic consequences because the eye drove the narrator so crazy that he killed someone. He now has to face what they have done. Another consequence of their decision could be whatever happens with the police. The story of â€Å"The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas† is far from the â€Å"The Tell-Tale Heart†. The theme in â€Å"The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas† is don’t always believe what you hear. The narrator says,I do not know the rules and laws of their society but I suspect that they were singularly few (LeGuin, par.3). You shouldn’t always believe what people say to you because it can easily be false or a lie. Make sure you always reconsider what people say to you.
